The Dunlop Le Mans V model came to replace the legendary LeMans 4 tire, whose mass production began six years earlier. The predecessor model, also known in some parts of the world as Le Mans LM704 and SP Sport LM704, successfully combined long tread life and fuel efficiency with a smooth and noiseless ride, due to which it enjoyed unflagging popularity. However, the tireless ambitions of the manufacturer and high competition in the tire market forced the company Sumitomo, which owns this brand, to further improve its model. Specifically, the Le Mans V improves on the mechanic and acoustic comfort delivered by its predecessor, ensures a more balanced tread wear, and has a more reliable wet grip. All of this became possible due to the use of innovative technologies. One of them is Silent Core. Inside the Dunlop Le Mans 5 tire, there is an extra spongy layer, which reduces cavity resonance, thereby increasing the ride comfort. If we are to compare the Le Mans models of two generations, the advantage of the “V” model is obvious: its noise emission at 40 km/h is 32.4% lower, and at 60 km/h is 36.9% lower than that of its predecessor. However, the main innovation, implemented in the Le Mans V, is the Shinobi technology, whose name is a direct dedication to the ninja, famous for their ability to move smoothly and silently in space. Thanks to it, the sidewalls became significantly more elastic, which allows the tire to better absorb the road vibrations during the driving.

Under load, the sidewalls of standard tires bend only partially, which is why, when driving on uneven road surfaces, they cannot completely absorb vibrations. However, the Shinobi sidewalls bend fully, which contributes to the cushioning effect and dramatically increases ride comfort. The changes in the tread design and the tire profile also served to improve the ride comfort. They ensure extra shock absorption and enhance the ride smoothness. The joint action of the innovation described above made it possible to increase the ride comfort delivered by the fifth-generation LeMans tire by 10%, while the optimization of the tread block stiffness reduced the level of uneven wear by 27%.
