Apollo Tyres Sharpens Focus on the SUV Segment

Apollo Tyres introduced the all-terrain tires, Apollo Apterra AT2, designed for SUVs. This all-terrain tire will complement Apollo’s existing Apterra range including specialized models Apterra AT (All-Terrain), Apterra HL (Highway Luxury), Apterra HP (High Performance), Apterra HT, and Apterra HT2 (Highway Terrain).

The new tire model appeared thanks to a collaborative effort between the two Global R&D Centres in Enschede (Netherlands) and in Chennai (India). The tires will be manufactured at the company’s Vadodara unit in Gujarat (India’s west).

The company is looking at supplying India’s domestic market with 15 000 Apterra AT2 tires a month, which are targeted towards vehicles like Chevrolet Trailblazer, Ford Endeavou, Renault Duster, Mitsubishi Pajero and Toyota Fortuner. Initially, the model will be available in eight sizes; later on, six more will be launched, thanks to which the range will cover over 90% of the all-terrain vehicle market.

Satish Sharma, President, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa (APMEA), Apollo Tyres, said that the company was sharpening its focus on the SUV segment in India because this vehicle segment is growing faster than the segment of passenger cars. The excellent test results, and the global efforts that have gone into developing the Apollo Apterra AT2, give Apollo the confidence that this tire will set a new benchmark in the all-terrain tire space.

Remarkable is the fact that Apterra AT2 bears the M+S sign and the 3PMSF, which indicates that this tire can be used all-year round.
