Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 is a passenger UHP tire designed to ensure a high level of safety on wet and dry roads in summer. According to the manufacturer, the key features of this new summer model 2019 include a short braking distance on wet pavement, excellent dry handling response, high ride comfort, and low noise emission.

The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 came to replace the 2015 Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 model. The presale in-company tests showed that the fifth-generation tire surpasses its predecessor in a number of performance areas. Specifically, the new tire’s wet braking performance was improved by 4%, which was ensured by the use of Goodyear’s proprietary Active Braking Technology, which consists in increasing the contact patch, when under load, to the size characteristic for race car tires.

However, what makes the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 fundamentally different from the previous-generation tire is the innovative tread compound. This compound allowed the engineers to strengthen wet grip without having to sacrifice either resistance to wear or dry handling performance.

During the development of this model, the engineers paid a lot of attention to reducing the deformation of the tread elements under lateral pressure. The structure of the tire was further reinforced by an extra ply, which improved the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 steering response, as well as feedback through the steering wheel, handling performance, and dry grip.

This model, designed to be installed on powerful sports cars, features an asymmetric tread pattern. The visual differences from the predecessor model are virtually nonexistent. The wide drainage grooves quickly evacuate water from the contact area, while the smaller traversal grooves located at a precisely calibrated acute angle further enhance their effectiveness, thus boosting the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 hydroplaning resistance.

The tilt angle of the grooves running between the tread blocks is meant to minimize the deformation of the brocks during the braking, which reduces the braking distance, stabilizes the shape of the contact patch and increases the overall driving safety in rainy weather.
