Hankook releases a new off-road tire for the European market

The European market is finally getting the Hankook Dynapro MT2 mud tire, presented in Korea two years ago, which came to replace the Dynapro MT model; the new tire is equipped with the latest innovations from Hankook’s Technodome R&D center. According to the company, the new model is «the most capable and extreme off-road tire Hankook has ever offered».

The tire’s «MT» designation takes its name from mud terrain, and for good reason. 3D simulation software has been used to develop the Dynapro MT2’s Terrain Strike Tread Design to offer an aggressive, high-void tread pattern. As a result, the tire’s traction on mud, dirt, rock, sand and gravel surfaces has been optimized.

Hankook’s new split-mold technology makes the tire even more robust than its predecessor, making it appear as if seamlessly cast from a single mold. The wraparound tread along with new Sidewall Protection Shields both work to provide extra biting edges when crawling over rocks as well as additional rubber gauge construction to protect against punctures. In addition, interlocked tread blocks extending to the center of the sidewall help to minimize damage to the tire shoulder caused by off-road abrasions, whilst increasing overall rigidity and traction.

«We are glad to propose to the amateurs of impassable road the cross-country tire, which also can be used on the standard roads» — noted Lee’s Sankhun, the President of the European subdivision Hankook. «We are delighted to offer off-road driving enthusiasts a purpose-built tire designed to take on the toughest terrain, while still performing well on standard roads» — says Sanghoon Lee, President, Hankook Tire Europe.

The V-shaped shoulder blocks that interlock perfectly with the terrain further enhance the Dynrapro MT2’s high traction under extreme conditions. The self-cleaning cross grooves, with integrated stone ejectors, help to efficiently clear the tread of debris to increase grip and protect against stone drilling and puncturing.

The natural rubber content in the tire compound of the Dynapro MT2 is not only produced sustainably, but also increases the elasticity of the rubber compound. This allows the tread to better adapt to smaller irregularities and offers maximum grip, while further reducing susceptibility to breakage and cuts. Thanks to their high surface density, the fillers used also increase the viscoelastic properties of the rubber compound and improve the grip on rough terrain as well as on standard roads. In addition, the tread design and tread compound reduce rolling noise on the road, offering a quieter, more comfortable ride.

The particularly robust carcass construction ensures off-road stability and precision as well as a comfortable driving experience on asphalt. Hankook adds that the seamless high-performance bead wire helps to keep the tire securely on the rim even when driving on difficult terrain with lower tire pressures.

The latest addition to the Dynapro product line is available on the European market in over 19 sizes, some with the popular white «Dynapro» sidewall lettering and all with the POR identifier on the sidewall. POR stands for Professional Off-Road. These tires are specially designed for rough terrain and have a special status because they do not fall under the EU label obligation. They may also be driven in winter in countries where winter tires are compulsory, although they do not carry the 3PMSF symbol. The Dynapro MT2 includes the M+S marking on the sidewall.
