Taiwan’s Cheng Shin Rubber has expanded its European range with a new model named Maxxis Victra Sport 5 SUV. According to the manufacturer, the new tire is essentially a reinforced version of the passenger-car UHP tire model Victra Sport 5, which perfectly matches the requirements posed by heavy SUVs with a high gravity center.
Developing Victra Sport 5 SUV, the Cheng Shin Rubber engineers made the most of the strong sides of the passenger-car tire model, adding a few new features, such as improved rubber compound for better traction on wet pavement, stronger resistance to rupture and crack formation, as well as more efficient environmental performance.
The tread pattern featuring four wide circumferential grooves and «leopard claws» has also been borrowed from the passenger-car version Victra Sport 5, yet at the same time it had to be adapted to a higher gravity center of an SUV. The SUV version also got a reinforced sidewall construction. The new aramid/nylon ply layer reduces tire weight and improves rolling resistance and handling performance at high speed.

Initially, Maxxis presented its new summer model in 29 sizes covering rim diameters ranging from 17 to 21 inches. Depending on the size, the speed indexes of the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 SUV may vary between W and Y. The company is already planning to expand the selection of the 20 and 21 inch options.
It is noteworthy that the passenger-car tire Victra Sport 5 (in size 225/40 R18) demonstrated excellent results in the ADAC test 2020. Competing against 15 other rivals, this model got its fifteen minutes of fame, sharing the third place on the winners’ pedestal with a Goodyear tire.
