The specially designed asymmetric tread pattern of Yokohama BluEarth-XT AE61 is adapted to meet the needs of vehicles with a high gravity center. The extra sturdiness of the middle ribs and the shoulders of this tire model serves to improve the handling response and prevents uneven tread wear. The main circumferential grooves, aided by the two narrower ones on the inside of the tread pattern, endure high performance of this tire on wet pavement.
For better acoustic comfort, Yokohama BluEarth-XT AE61 uses five-step tread configuration. The thought-out placement of lamellae and sipes suppresses the noise arising from the tire hitting the road surface, as well as the noise issuing from the stream of air that appears between the tire and the road surface. In addition, the five types of diagonal grooves, thanks to their optimum placement, cut down the characteristic noise, usually clearly heard on asphalt.
The rubber compound of Yokohama BluEarth-XT AE61, which is essentially a mix of silica and polymers, improves the tire’s performance on wet pavement and its fuel efficiency.
The convex profile of the tread blocks of this model improved the distribution of pressure in the road contact area, which increased the tire’s resistance to uneven treadwear and road holding ability.
Compared to the Yokohama Geolandar SUV G055, launched on the market in 2012, the tests showed that the braking performance of Yokohama BluEarth-XT AE61 was reduced by 8% on dry pavement and by 16% on wet pavement. At the same time, the acoustic comfort was increased by 7%.
