Nokian Tyres has presented new summer tires for crossovers and SUVs. According to the manufacturer, Nokian Powerproof SUV was engineered to ensure comfortable lane switching at highway speeds, as well during emergency braking, while Nokian Wetproof SUV tires are characterized by effective braking performance on wet pavement, as well as by extremely high hydroplaning resistance.
Both new SUV tire models, which will be available retail since the spring of 2020, are equipped with the Dual Zone Safety technology, familiar to us from the passenger car tires Nokian Powerproof and Nokian Wetproof. This technology ensures that the contact patch that is under pressure will always stay the same, and the car’s behavior will remain predictable, both on wet and dry pavements.
The main feature that makes Powerproof SUV and Wetproof SUV different from their passenger-car counterparts is the use of the manufacturer’s patented technology called Aramid Sidewall. The sidewalls of the new summer tires for SUVs use extremely strong aramid fibers that increase the tires’ resistance to stress and resistance to puncture.
Nokian Powerproof SUV tire refers to the UHP class. It has been designed for heavy-duty powerful SUVs. They will be available in 29 sizes with fitting diameters ranging from 17 to 21 inches, with the speed indexes V (240 km/h), W (270 km/h), and Y (300 km/h).
Nokian Wetproof SUV is meant to be installed on small to midsize SUVs. Its selection will include 27 sizes with speed indexes H (210 km/h), V (240 km/h), and W (270 km/h) for fitting diameters ranging from 16 to 19 inches.
