Nexen Winguard Ice Plus Tire Rank
119 56 in Passenger / Winter
55 27 in Studless Ice & Snow
Manufacturer's description
Winguard Ice Plus has a dual V shape that enhances grip and braking. There are four grooves and two small semi grooves that drain snow, slush, and water. The Winguard Ice Plus shoulder stiffness enhances durability and its 3D block prevents abnormal wear.
Notable Features
Nexen WinGuard Ice Plus WH43 is a passenger-car friction winter tire with a symmetric tread pattern, designed to increase driving safety in the harshest of weather conditions. It is characterized by superior traction and excellent lateral stability on snow and ice, as well as by a smooth and comfortable ride. A winter model 2018/2019.
In spite of the fact that the Nexen WinGuard Ice Plus came to replace the passenger-car tire model WinGuard Ice, its tread design is strikingly similar to that of the WinGuard Ice SUV tires. It is obvious that the full V-shaped pattern ensures a more confident road behavior on slippery winter surfaces, such as ice or hard-packed snow.
Thanks to the highly developed drainage system, consisting of “ring” zigzag channels and confluent diagonal grooves, the Nexen WinGuard Ice Plus quickly evacuates water and slush from the contact area, thus efficiently combating hydroplaning and slushplaning.
The 3D sipes ensure excellent balance between the snow traction delivered by the tire and the rigidity of the tread blocks. The “bird” grooves in the shoulder areas, running perpendicular to the vehicle’s motion, increase the tread stiffness and extend the tread life of the Nexen WinGuard Ice Plus.
The stepping 3D design of the outer blocks of the shoulder areas of this Scandinavian-type non-studded winter model increases traction on loose snow.

Vi Bilagare: Studless Winter Tire Test R16
Ranked #5th of 8. Nexen Winguard Ice PlusVerdict:The new friction model from Nexen vividly demonstrates that this Korean brand is rapidly developing. The new tire from the Land of the Morning Calm surprised everyone with excellent performance when starting off and braking, both on snow and ice, where it also demonstrated the shortest stopping distance. The lateral grip is worse, with prominent understeer. Nonetheless, in terms of the points scored in the winter disciplines, the Nexen model only fell short of the leaders, Nokian and Continental. Sadly, the outstanding winter characteristics were achieved at the expense of sacrificing the tire’s dry performance. In the dry, the tire provides fuzzy steering response, and demonstrates a low road holding ability coupled with a long braking distance. On wet pavement, the WIP WH43 suddenly turns out to be prone to skidding, the rear wheels being the first to lose grip. Ultimately, scoring fifth place, the Nexen friction model becomes the best newcomer 2020.

Comments
I've bought these tires instead of my all seasons. I can praise more comfortable and quiet ride. The winter performance is amazing! They stick to the road like glue. Ice braking impressed me very much. But the weak point is the tire's performance in the wet conditions. Wet braking is longer than I expected.
