Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 2

Description

The Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 2 is a studless ice and snow tire, specifically designed for the challenging conditions of Nordic winters. This tire is the successor to the Goodyear UltraGrip Ice+ and has been meticulously crafted to offer optimal traction, handling, and braking performance in all winter conditions.

Features & Benefits

  • Optimal Traction and Handling: The UltraGrip Ice 2 ensures drivers have a confident grip on icy and snowy roads, allowing for safer and more controlled driving.
  • Short Braking Distance: On slippery ice and deep snow, the tire's design ensures that vehicles come to a stop in the shortest distance possible, enhancing safety.
  • Lightweight Design: This feature ensures better fuel efficiency and reduced wear and tear on the vehicle.

Technologies

  • ActiveGrip Technology: This proprietary technology from Goodyear ensures reliable contact with slippery winter roads and superior performance on ice. It combines a cryo-adaptive dual rubber tread compound with hybrid sipes.
  • UG Ice 2 Rubber Compound: The tire features a dual-layer rubber compound. The top layer is soft and elastic, ensuring grip on icy surfaces, while the harder base compound provides handling at higher temperatures.
  • Directional Tread Design: This design resists aquaplaning and slushplaning. The saw-shaped shoulder blocks and open side grooves improve performance in deep snow and help drain melted snow and water from the contact patch.

Year Released

The Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 2 was released in April 2014, succeeding the Goodyear UltraGrip Ice+.

Regions Availability

The Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 2 is available in various regions, including the USA, Canada, Europe, and Russia.

Vehicle Compatibility / Popular Vehicle Fitments

Given the tire's design and the regions it's sold in, it would be compatible with a range of vehicles commonly found in these areas, especially those that frequently encounter severe winter conditions. Popular vehicle fitments might include:

  • Volvo XC60
  • Audi A4
  • BMW 3 Series
  • Volkswagen Passat
  • Ford Focus
  • Toyota Camry
  • Subaru Outback

Note: Always consult with a tire specialist or the vehicle's manufacturer to ensure correct tire fitment.

Final Thoughts

The Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 2 has proven itself in various independent tests, consistently ranking among the top winter tires. Its innovative design and technologies make it a reliable choice for drivers facing the harshest winter conditions. Whether it's the icy roads of Russia or the snowy terrains of Canada, this tire promises safety, performance, and confidence for every journey.

I've bought these set of tires after reading some good reviews. I'm driving on them during 4 weeks and ready to tell about pros and cons. These tires perform great on the icy roads, break well. As for driving on the wet and on the dry, they could do better. We have a lot of snow in our region now and I've noticed them to be hydroplane sometimes. The tires are quite quiet compared my previuous tires.

I bought these tires for my Mazda 6 1.8. The tires behave quite steadily in snow and slush, the road is well maintained, I brake quite smoothly on them, problems arise when a crust of ice forms on the asphalt. During the first season of use, it never skidded, did not slip much. They are great for the city, but for the road and ice, I would still take a closer look at the spikes.

I have been driving for fifth winter on them. Good braking on asphalt, great performance on both dry and wet.
On a snowy slush, maneuvering with gas release may end up skidding.
Absolutely does NOT slow down on frozen puddles! ABS beats, the handbrake does not save.
Next winter I will put a spike.
