Bought these W429s for my Volvo S70 T5, and let me tell you, they’re the best winter tires Ive ever used. Driving through snowy roads and icy patches in Anchorage, these tires grip like a grizzly on salmon. The added studs provide amazing traction on ice – I can push my limits in corners without losing control. Even when I’m driving spiritedly, the car feels stable and secure. They’re pretty quiet too, which is a pleasant surprise for studded tires. I was so impressed, I got a set for my fiancée’s car as well
What is good?
There fantastic, even without studs. The price was right, and they’ve outlasted my old Nokians by a mile.
What is bad?
They do get a bit noisy on dry roads, but that’s a small trade-off for their snow performance.

We had a heck of a winter this year and these tires didnt let me down. They brake beautifuly on snow and ice – really blew me away. Drove through a blizzard on unplowed roads and felt secure the entire time. Sure, there’s some noise from the studs, but its totally manageable.
What is good?
Totally recommend them for anyone dealing with harsh winter conditions.

UTAC: Large Winter Tire Test R16
Ranked #2nd of 19. Hankook Winter i*Pike RS2 W429Verdict:On ice, this Hankook model ensures quick acceleration and braking; its lateral grip is also quite decent, but the tire is a bit temperamental when cornering. On snow, the tire is also good — it has an impressive grip, and only the most abrupt of maneuvers can make the tire lose it. On wet pavement, the tire ensures a good handling performance, but it behaves nervously during abrupt maneuvers, and the grip on the rear wheels can go without warning. At the same time, on dry pavement during maneuvering the tire behaves in a more stable way. By the standards of this segment, this Hankook model is a rather quiet tire, and it has a rather low rolling resistance.

Hankook Winter i*Pike RS2 W429Verdict:The second-generation Hankook i*pike tire was presented in 2018, and, since the time the VB test was conducted, that manufacturer has had the time to upgrade it. As experts note, one can hope that Hankook has increased the braking effectiveness on wet and dry pavements, which was definitely an issue with this tire. At the same time, Hankook demonstrated excellent hydroplaning resistance, and by this parameter they were able to surpass all of the rivals. Yet another peculiarity of Hankook is the biggest projection of the spikes among all the tested tires, and this affected the results that turned out to be worse than expected.
