Quattroruote: All-Season Tire Test R19 2025

Quattroruote: All-Season Tire Test R19

A few years ago, all-season tires were mainly recommended for compact cars with modest power, but today they're becoming a common sight on fast, mid-size crossovers. Keeping up with the times, Quattroruote reviewers took the wheel of an Audi Q3 and put seven all-season tires, sized 235/50 R19, to the test—tires capable of handling speeds well above 200 km/h.

As Giovanni Lopes, an author for the Italian magazine, pointed out, Italy's Highway Code makes it clear: when roads are slippery, either install snow chains or ensure your tires carry the M+S marking. Nowadays, all modern all-season tires have this marking, and many also bear the 3PMSF alpine symbol, certifying their performance on snow.

Snow tests were conducted at a track in Ivalo, Finland, in temperatures between -5 and -7°C. Wet tracks were provided by the ÖAMTC at their headquarters in Melk, and dry tests were held at Quattroruote's own facility in Vairano di Vidigulfo. While the team didn’t specify the temperatures in Austria and Italy, they were clearly different from Finland’s cold. Instead of awarding medals or passing verdicts, the Quattroruote team rated each tire with a star ranking based on its performance in various conditions.

    Verdict:

It racked up 50 stars overall, excelling most in snow tests, where no competitor could beat it in acceleration, braking, or distance. Another unbeatable performance came in the hydroplaning resistance test. It’s worth noting, though, that its price is also at the top of the market.
