Tyre Reviews: Michelin CrossClimate All-Season Tire Test R16 2025
Michelin recently launched two new all-season tires: the evolutionary CrossClimate 3 (upgrading the CrossClimate 2) and the performance-focused CrossClimate 3 Sport. Tyre Reviews, led by Jonathan Benson, tested both against the outgoing CrossClimate 2 benchmark. The goal was to verify Michelin’s claims: Could the CC3 fix the CC2’s wet grip and wear limitations while keeping its elite snow traction? And could the CC3 Sport deliver sportier handling without sacrificing all-season versatility? Testing used a VW Golf with 205/55 R16 tires across dry, wet, and snow conditions, measuring braking distances, handling times, aquaplaning resistance, and subjective feedback.
The data revealed clear improvements. The CrossClimate 3 shortened wet braking by 3 meters versus the CC2 and improved snow traction, while also leading in wear resistance. The CrossClimate 3 Sport achieved a 10% wet braking advantage over the CC3 and 2.2% faster dry laps, though it showed minor reductions in snow circle grip (-4.2%) and lateral aquaplaning resistance. Both models exceeded most rivals in snow performance, with the CC3 covering 16-22" sizes and the CC3 Sport targeting 18-23" fitments.
