Notable Features

Michelin Alpin 6 (A6 for short) is an European-type studless winter tire, presented in March 2018, designed to be used in mild weather conditions. It is characterized by dependable grip and efficient snow braking, stable and crisp steering response on wet pavement, smooth and noiseless ride, and an ability to optimize fuel consumption by the vehicle.

The Michelin Alpin 6 came to replace the 2014 model Alpin 5. Four years’ work on creating the sixth generation of this popular winter tire line resulted in a number of innovations aimed at offsetting the achievements of such direct rivals as Goodyear, Dunlop, Continental, Bridgestone, and Pirelli. Michelin Alpin 6 tread design (closeup) Over the recent years, the engineers of this French tire maker have been consistently focusing not only on the longevity of their models but, even more importantly, on the longevity of their performance. Therefore, the company makes every effort to highlight the efficiency of using its tires in a worn condition. The EverGrip technology Do you remember the EverGrip technology, which is already successfully used in such models as Michelin Premier A/S, Michelin Premier LTX, and Michelin CrossClimate Plus? It is this technology that is the cornerstone of the dependable grip ensured by the Michelin A6 on winter roads. The revolutionary EverGrip technology is about expanding rain grooves positioned around the circumference of the tire with a special geometric shape that gets wider as the tread wears. This helps maintain the amount of water that the tire can channel away even as these rain grooves lose depth. The result of the EverGrip technology in action One must note that the developers got so much into optimizing the tread pattern of the tire that at first sight it does not even look like it belongs to the Alpin line. What is more prominent is similarity with another new model 2018, Michelin Agilis CrossClimate, with which the Michelin Alpin 6 is tied not only by visual likeness, but also by technological solutions. Specifically, both models feature identical tread wear indicators. Worn and new Alpin 6 tires The numerous sipes in the central section of the tread optimize the longitudinal and traversal traction, while the large blocks on the shoulder areas facilitate high-speed maneuvering.

The rubber compound of the friction tire Michelin Alpin A6, which, besides silica, includes special softeners and functional polymers, improves not only the snow traction and the tire’s grip on wet and dry pavements, but also fuel efficiency and resistance to wear. Multilayered tread The frost-resistant rubber compound makes a lot of positive difference to the tire’s performance under low temperatures.

The presales tests of the flagship product, conducted in December 2017 – January 2018 by the TÜV SÜD experts, elicited a number of its competitive advantages. For example, in size 205/55 R16 91H, the stopping distance demonstrated by the worn Alpin 6 tires was 5.4 meters shorter than the average result of Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 Evo, Continental WinterContact TS 860, Dunlop Winter Sport 5, Goodyear UltraGrip 9, Pirelli Cinturato Winter, and Nokian WR D4.

In addition, the acceleration dynamics and traction demonstrated by the worn sixth-generation Alpin tires is higher than that of its competitors when driving up a snow-covered hill with a 12 percent incline. And the longevity tests, conducted in laboratory conditions, promise a longer tread life for the Michelin Alpin 6.

Tests. In the year the model was released, the tire maker opted out of providing samples of the tires for independent tests before these tires were launched retail, and the first tests of the Michelin Alpin 6 only occurred in the winter season 2019/2020.

Very good tires for winter. Winter 2020/2021 gave me the opportunity to test the Michelin Aplin 6 tires. On a dry surface, it sticks to the asphalt. In the snow, there was no road or parking lot that I would not have driven out. On a slippery road, at speeds of about 40 km/h, the rear of the car slightly skidded, and the front was still stable. With a clear conscience, I can recommend these tires to anyone who cares about safety. I recommend.

I was looking for a tire that is both quiet and very safe in all conditions. I could not afford to buy a tire that I would not be sure of in the most difficult conditions due to the very high mileage I am covering. I ordered Michelin Alpin 6 tires. I do not regret my choice in any respect so far. These tires are very quiet and allow you to feel safe even at great speeds developed on highways. I recommend these tires.

Silent tires. Very good traction on dry and wet surfaces. The car runs like a string. Clearly high adhesion to the surface, but also rolling resistance, probably slightly higher than indicated by the tire indicator. Fuel consumption increased (previously Pirelli) by almost 0.4 liters / 100 km in mixed traffic (convergence checked). Moving off in the snow without any reservations. Tires noticeably "soft" in the corners - the impression of moving the car sideways (just an impression). Overall: recommendable tires, but use common sense in winter. I would like to point out that I bought tires that are 5 weeks old from the date of production, which is still warm. Good job! Michelin are good tires worth recommending.
