Michelin CrossClimate 2

Description

The Michelin CrossClimate 2 is a tour de force in the realm of all-season passenger tires. Developed as a sequel to the original Michelin CrossClimate, this tire brings together years of engineering prowess to deliver what Michelin claims to be "the most versatile and advanced passenger tire" they have developed in more than two decades. This tire is highly versatile, with applications ranging from passenger cars to SUVs and crossovers, courtesy of its wide size range.

Features & Benefits

  • All-Weather Traction: One of the standout qualities of the Michelin CrossClimate 2 is its unparalleled all-weather traction. Engineered to excel in both dry and wet conditions, this tire sets the benchmark for safety and stability across varying climates.
  • Longevity: The CrossClimate 2 offers an extra year of tread life when compared to other leading competitors in the all-season category.
  • Resistance to Wear: Advanced engineering ensures that even when the tire is worn, it still provides a high level of grip on snow and wet pavement, thereby extending the tire's usability.
  • Shorter Stopping Distance: Notably, the tire performs exceptionally well in stopping tests, boasting a 4.8-meter shorter stopping distance on dry pavement compared to its competitors.

Technologies

  • V-Formation Tread Pattern: The tire features a V-formation tread pattern, which serves a dual purpose: not only does it provide excellent water and snow evacuation, but it also enhances hydroplaning resistance.
  • Thermal-Adaptive Tread Compound: A state-of-the-art thermal-adaptive tread compound offers a high level of grip across weather conditions. This compound also minimizes rolling resistance, which translates to better fuel efficiency for the vehicle.
  • Figured Lamellas: The design of the lamellas has been upgraded to enhance the edge effect, improving the tire's traction on light snow conditions.

Year Released

The Michelin CrossClimate 2 was released in 2020, making its debut during a July 22 virtual launch event. It was developed as a successor to the Michelin CrossClimate, a tire initially positioned as a summer tire but later approved for wintertime use. The Michelin CrossClimate 2 also replaced other models, including the CrossClimate+, CrossClimate SUV, Premier A/S, and Premier LTX.

Regions Availability

The tire is widely available across multiple regions, including but not limited to:

  • USA+
  • Canada
  • Europe
  • Russia+
  • Japan

Vehicle Compatibility / Popular Vehicle Fitments

This tire is particularly noted as an Original Equipment (OE) tire for the Volvo C40 I for the model years 2021 to 2023. Additionally, an SUV-specific variant, the Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV, is also available.

Final Thoughts

Few tires can claim the kind of universal acclaim that the Michelin CrossClimate 2 has received from both critics and consumers alike. Its raft of first-place finishes in various tire tests—ranging from ACE/ARBÖ/GTÜ, Consumer Reports, to TireRack.com—attests to its superior quality and performance. It's particularly worth noting its high marks in all-season performance, tread life, and safety measures.

In summary, the Michelin CrossClimate 2 sets a new industry standard for all-season tires, pushing the envelope in both technological innovation and performance reliability. This tire is a compelling choice for those who demand nothing but the best for their vehicles.

These tires have excellent grip on the road both on wet and dry surfaces, and fuel consumption is at the same low level of ~ 5.7L / 100km. The only negative thing is that the CrossClimate 2 tires are slightly louder, but they are still very good. I recommend! It would be hard to find better all-season tires :)
